How to Run these DOS Games on Windows Vista, Windows XP, Gentoo Linux, MAC OS X, Solaris, Fedora Core, Free BSD etc.?

Make sure the Game you downloaded is in .zip (WinZip Compressed Archive) Format. Following are the Steps for running DOS Game in Windows XP/Vista:

1. Suppose you downloaded Aladdin.zip on your Computer, Now Copy this .zip folder to your C: Drive and Extract it’s Content to a Folder say Aladdin.

2. Now Download DOSBox (An x86 Emulator with DOS) for Windows, Install the Software and Run the Application.

3. As soon as you run the Application, you will see a Screen with Z:\> Prompt like this:

dos box start screen

4. Here we want to load Aladdin Game from C: Drive. So for this, Type Z:\>Mount C C:\Aladdin:

dosbox command

You will get a message Drive C is Mounted as Local Directory C:\Aladdin\

5. Now in order to access C: Drive, type Z:\>C:

dosbox command 1

The Z:\> Prompt will now change to C:\> Prompt

6. In the above step you have mounted C: Drive and the Program is ready for your Next Command. Now type C:/>Aladdin.exe:

dosbox command 2

This will Start the Game within the DOSBox Software.

The above steps remain same for all other Games. You need to carefully pick the correct.exe file by browsing the Game Folder Manually. Almost all Games are DOSBox Compatible, but there are some which are not.

For more Information on other Operating System, you can always refer to this DOSBox Wiki Page or Browse through DOSBox Forums
