Dealing with Blog/Content Plagiarism using DMCA/Abuse Report

If you own a Blog/Website with high traffic, than chances are very high, when you come across various Blogs/Websites where written content/articles/images from your Blog gets copied and published without permission/credit.

Such Blogs/Websites are known as Scaper Websites and these websites are actually doing Content/Article Plagiarism

If you are victim of Content Plagiarism, then lets check out in this post the necessary steps you need to take in order to remove your copied Articles from Scraper Websites/Blogs OR from Google Search Index by using DMCA/Abuse Reports.

Why Content Scraper Website/Blog copies article from my Blog/Website?:

Getting Rankings in Search Results – Google will give higher rankings to the Website where the Content/Article was first published and in this case Sitemap plays a very vital role in telling Google Bots the exact Date and Time when a particular Content/Article was published. If anyone copies the same content/article later, Google Bots may either ignore these articles from being displayed in its index OR simply give them lower position in SERP. But sometimes, these copied articles may rank higher in Search Results or on other Websites
Revenue - These content scrapers primarily steals content from other Websites/Blogs in order to widen their Blog Article Database and earn revenue from Advertising Programs like Google AdSense (If they already have an account), Technorati Media (If they already have an account), Infolinks (easy to get approved) etc. etc.
Fun, as there’s nothing to loose - These stealing websites/blogs either don’t pay for hosting (uses Free Platform like Blogger etc.) and Domain OR simply pays very very less.

How to Deal with Blog/Content Plagiarism using DMCA/Abuse Reports?

Follow these very simple steps if any particular Website/Blog is stealing content from your Blog/Website without permission/credit:

1. Look for Administrator Contact Information in the Offending Blog/Website. Either there may be a Contact Page or Links to some Social Networking/Media Profile like Facebook, Twitter etc. If you find any means to Contact the Blog/Website Administrator, send him/her a Polite Email/Message asking him/her to remove all copied Content/Images.

If you are unable to find any Contact Information OR Links to Social Networking/Media Profiles, follow the 2nd step below:

2. Contact Google Team using THIS PAGE and select the appropriate Google Product from where you want to remove your copied article/content. In the present case, either you want to remove the offending blog/website URL from Google Search Index OR you want to remove your copyrighted images from Google Image Search.

For removing Offending Blog’s/Website URL from Google Search Index OR for removing your copyrighted images from Google Image Search Index, you are required to fill out THIS FORM (Login Required), where you need to tell every details about your copyrighted work to Google.

Google Team will suitably investigate your DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) Complaint and will remove copied Articles from Google Web/Image Search Index.

Though above step is more than sufficient, but if the Content Scraper is also using a Domain Name, than you can also send a Abuse/Complaint Email to the Domain Registrar by means of Registrar Information provided in the Domain WHOIS Records (Example of WHOIS Record here)

Also, if the offending Blog/Website is using any Web Hosting Company to host his/her scraper Website, than you can also send a Abuse Report directly to the Web Hosting Company/Data Center (Example here and here from HostGator). In order to determine, which Web Hosting Company/Data Center the offending Blog/Website is using, make use of service mentioned in THIS POST and locate appropriate contact form/E-mail, using which you can send copyright infringement/abuse notice.

3. This is a very extreme step, but if the Offending Blog/Website still copies your Content continually (As I already said, there’s nothing/very less to loose), than you can also file a DMCA/Abuse/Complaint to various Advertising Networks, the offending Blog/Website is using. If the Offending Website is using AdSense as its Advertising Network, than you can File an AdSense DMCA (Guidelines here). For other Advertising Networks, you have to contact them using the Contact Page/Abuse Email Address mentioned on their Official Website.

The Advertising Website may disable Ad Serving for offending Blog/Website OR may completely BAN such Blog/Website/Blog Administrator from their Advertising Network.

Apart from Advertising Networks, you can also Contact Google Team again (by quoting the previous DMCA Case Number) and notify them of Copyright Infringement for the 2nd time.

[AdSense Approval] Changes in Publisher Application Process

Google AdSense recently announced changes in Application Process for NEW Publishers.

The details are as follows:

We’re continually evaluating our AdSense application process in order to ensure the safest possible network for our advertisers, as well as the best possible experience for you, our publishers. With that in mind, we’ve now implemented a change to our initial review process that will result in a stronger AdSense network. Improving the quality of the network will drive more interest and demand from advertisers, increasing the earning potential for all of our publishers.

Starting today, we’ll begin adding a new step to the review process and sending notifications at two key points. After a new application is submitted, we’ll begin with preliminary checks on the site and the applicant’s submitted details. If the application passes through this first stage, we’ll notify the applicant by email, grant them account access, and provide them with ad code to place on their submitted site. It’s essential at this stage for the applicant to place the ad code on their site, as the review process can’t be completed until the ad code is implemented.

However, live ads won’t immediately appear once the ad code has been placed on the submitted site. Since the application hasn’t been fully approved yet, temporary “blank ads” will be shown instead. These blank ads will blend in with the background of the page, so users won’t see them and the user experience won’t be impacted. As a result, there’s nothing to click on and thus revenue can’t yet be generated. If the applicant logs into their AdSense account at this stage of the review process, they’ll see a reminder that their account is still under review.

Soon after the ad code has been added to the submitted site, a final approval decision will be made and the applicant will be notified by email. Newly approved publishers will see live ads automatically appear in the existing ad units on their pages. These publishers are then welcome (and encouraged!) to add more ad units to their submitted site and to any other policy-compliant sites they own. We also encourage new publishers to ensure their sites are available to be crawled by the AdSense robot (Mediapartners-Google), and also to use our best-performing ad formats.

Add/Disable/Remove Apps from Google Apps Marketplace

After suitably Signing Up for a Google Apps Account, you can easily Add/Disable/Remove additional Applications (Apps) available from Google Apps Marketplace.

Following are the steps which you need to follow in order to Add/Disable/Remove Apps from your Google Apps Admin Dashboard (as depicted in the above video):

Add an Application (App) from Google Apps Marketplace to your Google Apps Account/Dashboard:

1. Sign-in to your Google Apps Account Admin Dashboard and Go to Google Apps Marketplace.

Admin Dashboard Login Page for your Google Apps Account is generally located at: https://www.google.com/a/, while the Direct URL for your Google Apps Admin Dashboard is: https://www.google.com/a/cpanel//Dashboard

2. Search for your preferred Paid/FREE Application (App) using the Search Box at the top of the page OR Browse through your preferred categories in the sidebar.

3. Suppose you want to install/add MailChimp to your Google Apps Account/Dashboard, simply click on the Add it Now Blue Button:

Just beneath the Add it Now Button, you can also see Pricing Details for a particular App, Total Number of Users who can use the App and certain other conditions under a specific license.

4. As soon as you click on Add it Now Button, you will redirected to Terms of Services Page and Authorization Page, here you’ve to click on I Agree Button and Grant Data Access Button respectively – Make sure you read all the details about How an Application is going to use your Data/Account related Information etc.? thoroughly.

5. Once, you have completed the steps in Terms of Services Page and Authorization Page, go back to your Google Apps Admin Dashboard and you will see your New Application Added under Google Apps Marketplace:

Note: If any Application is PAID/REQUIRES Additional AUTHORIZATION etc., you will be prompted accordingly before the App can be added to/used from your Google Apps Account/Dashboard!

Disable/Remove an Application (App) from your Google Apps Account/Dashboard:

Removing/Disabling an Application, which you added earlier, is quite easy in Google Apps and can be done in a matter of few clicks only.

Follow these Steps to Remove an Application (App) from your Google Apps Account/Dashboard:

1. Go to your Google Apps Admin Dashboard and look for the Application Icon which you want to remove under Google Apps Marketplace:

2. Now click on the Application Name Hyperlink (E.g. MailChimp) and you will be redirected to the Application Settings Page.

Here at the bottom of the Application Settings Page, you will see Delete Application is written, which says: Deleting this app will permanently remove it, and any licenses to it, from your domain. You may need to repurchase the application to reinstall, and the app developer may delete your data:

3. Click on the Delete Application Name Hyperlink and you will be redirected to a Confirmation Page, where you need to click Delete this Service Button.

As soon as you click the Delete this Service Button, the Application as well as ALL data will be removed permanently from your Google Apps Account.

Now, in case you just want to disable any App Temporarily, instead of deleting it permanently, just follow these steps:

1. Go to your Google Apps Admin Dashboard and look for the Application Icon which you want to remove under Google Apps Marketplace.

2. Now click on the Application Name Hyperlink and you will be redirected to the Application Settings Page.

3. Here you will see Disable Application Name Hyperlink under App Status, which says: You can temporarily disable this application, preventing users from accessing it without losing any data.

Clicking on this Hyperlink will temporarily disable any Application without affecting your data, unless you re-enable in from the Settings Page:

Using above very easy to follow steps, anyone can easily Add/Disable/Remove Applications (Apps) from Google Apps Marketplace to his/her Google Apps Admin Dashboard.
