Opera is one of the most preferred web browser around the world!

Now with Opera you can experience really fast web browsing even on Slow Internet Connection!

HostGator
Opera now uses Opera Turbo, which is a compression technology that provides significant improvements in browsing speeds over limited-bandwidth connections like a crowded Wi-Fi in a cafe or browsing through your mobile phone while commuting. This does not only make you surf faster, but also lowers the cost of browsing when you are on a pay per usage plan.

You can make use of Opera Turbo with Opera 10 (In Beta while writing this Post), which can be downloaded from here

Opera Turbo icon is present at the Bottom Left Corner of the Browser. In order to Activate it, just Right Click on the Icon and Select Configure Opera Turbo…:

As soon as you click you will get a new window as follows:

opera turbo options

Here you will get 3 Options which are as follows:

  • Automatic – This Option will start compressing the data as soon as Opera Detects any Slow Network. If the Network Connectivity is efficient, Opera tends to ignore Higher Compression Technique.
  • ON – This will make Opera Turbo permanently ON. No matter whether your Network Connection is Slow or very fast.
  • OFF – This will turn OFF Opera Turbo permanently, until and unless you make use of above 2 options for enabling it again. You can turn OFF Opera Turbo when your Network Connectivity is Good or when you get some very low quality Web Pages due to compression technique and want to stick with original version of Webpage and it’s content. You can also disable Opera Turbo just by a Single Click on Turbo Icon.

Opera Turbo Icon also shows you improvement in the amount of Web Page Load time just as well as Bandwidth Saved just after enabling the Compression Technology:

Advantage(s)

1. Great browser compression technique for people still using Dial-up connection or very slow Wi-Fi Connection over crowded place. With Opera Turbo they can easily get complete information without the requirement of full network connectivity.

Disadvantage(s)

1. Since Opera Turbo uses compression technology, the image quality of almost all images in a webpage will be reduced as compared to the original version. Here’s a comparison between Original Version of Image and Image obtained after enabling Opera Turbo:

2. Parts of Website/Webpage using Flash or Javascript will be replaced by Plug-in Content. You will be unable to view the content unless and until you click on it.

Under certain cases some content will not be displayed at all.

Though above mentioned 2 points can’t be considered as complete disadvantages, as Opera Turbo is meant only for Boosting your Browsing speed over limited connections. You may disable Opera Turbo while browsing certain websites or when full connectivity is there!

Happy Turbo Browsing!
