Use PNG Format for Screenshots, Instead of JPEG/JPG Format!
At Mrintech , I have to take lots of Screenshots in order to make Posts more interactive and easily understandable. I generally use MS Paint for editing the Screenshots like adjusting it’s Height, Width, Colours, Inserting/Editing Texts etc.

Now when I come to save these images, I prefer PNG (Portable Network Graphics) Format, instead of JPEG/JPG Format.
Both PNG and JPEG are commonly used formats for Image Compression. It’s always better to use PNG over JPEG/JPG for Screenshots, which you are going to use in your Website/Blog.
Following are the Examples of a same image, saved in JPEG Format and PNG Format:

You can easily see the difference, that PNG is far better than JPEG/JPG. PNG Format preserves the Text you inserted in the image or already present in the image.
Also Notice that the File Size for above 2 Screenshots is lesser for PNG Format, while JPEG/JPG Format has got greater File Size. This means PNG Format is offering you great image quality and lesser file size!
Well, the File Size and Image Quality completely depends on the type/content of the image media you are using. But from My Side, PNG Format is the best for Screenshots.

For text oriented images, why can’t we use the GIF image instead of PNG/JPEG ?
Yes! We can use GIF images for Text Oriented Images without any problem. The file size for GIF Format is less and quality is also Good.
BTW I tried an Image in both PNG and GIF format. You will hardly find any difference in the two formats, but GIF Compression is somewhat lossy when compared to PNG. Rest GIF format have lesser file size.
